have to go back to nyc again

Hello,

I am back on the prowl for jobs again. I have another interview set up for next Thursday on the 9th of December in NY. I really hate to travel for these interviews since they mess up my schedule so much. The last time I took a flight back to NYC, it really messed up my schedule and it took me so long to get back into school mode. I even stayed in Michigan this thanksgiving because I didn't want to take a plane, and now, I have to take it again. Guess I just can't get out of it.
I understand that we have a presentation on the 9th for project 2. I am not to sure what I can do to make up for not being in class that day?

Getting back

I just got back from NYC from some interviews last night. I missed several classes because of these interviews and just been trying to get caught up again. I've never actually been this far back behind in classes before, but I don't have anything lined up anymore so it shouldn't be to bad. I just wanted to mention how having some BIT experience has helped in my last interview. After the interviews, the comapny placed all of us in a room to take a test. There was a section in excel on loan amortization. I think the main trick was to to put the $ signs for each cell in the formulas which a lot of the other candidates forgot to do. I remember playing around with the $ signs in JG Walls class last sememter in CIS 311. I'm glad I remembered. Hopefully the interview went well. I'll try to keep posting!

Exam was .....

The exam was totally not what I expected. I thought it would be more involved with sql. I thought the question format would be just like the questions in the textbook. I've taken C++ and the tests had a section where you write code. I studied the wrong thing for this test. O well, guess I'll have to work extra hard on the project from now on.
Also, the answer choice "undetermined" or something, that just threw me off. I felt that almost all the answers could possibly be undetermined. It really depends on how you look at it, I think.
Hopefully, everyone did well. I don't think I did. O well.

Wasn't in class on Tuesday....

I wasn't able to stay in class on Tuesday. I had an interview on Tuesday at 4pm so I had to leave early. I was actually lucky to even get on the schedule. They originally didn't have room for me in the schedule. But somehow, they were able to squeeze me in last minute. It was really nice of my interviewer. I was a little nervous about going last candidate in the interview. I was afraid of my interviewer being tired and grouchy when it was finally my turn. When I reached the site, I found out that my interviewer was 30 minutes late. Turned out that I could've stayed for the rest of class and still have enough time to get to the interview.
I was a little annoyed since I feel so lost now in class. I have no idea what went on during class. Hopefully, I can catch up tomorrow in class.
Back to my interview, i think it went alright. The interviewer was very laid back. Definitely not a high stress interview. I don't think I came across as outstanding though. O well. I'll post my results when I get them. Hope all goes well.
Back to studying for me.

Another question.

As I was reviewing ER exercise #2, I came upon another concept I couldn't understand. I remember hearing in class that a customer can NOT sell a used car directly to the dealer, but he can only sell it through a sales person. I understand the logic in that from real life, but looking at the diagram, I'm getting a l ittle bit confused again.
If a customer can not sell a used car directly, then why is there a line connecting the "Customer" box to the "Sold to Us" box? Since there is a line connecting the two, it seems as if a customer can directly sell to the dealership. If anyone is more clear on that point, can you get back to me? Thanks.

Lost, early in the game

Hello,

I am currently having a hard time swallowing the ER concept with the hashes and zeroes and bird toes? It still seems very abstract to me. I found it a lot easier to visualize the normal problems with actual tables. I am having problems understanding question #15 and # 16 of ER exercise #1.
During the class, I was able to quote Professor Gibson,
"..foreign key will always be on the many end referring back to min/max of 1...."

I can apply that, but I can't visualize anything. Professor Gibson was nice enough to give me an illustration. I was trying to absorb what he was saying and before I knew it, it his example was gone!

Does anyone remember Professor Gibson's illustration with the Paper and Issue tables?

Thanks for reading.

Do we need these books for class?

Hello,

I was wondering. Does anyone know if we need the 2 books for class. I went to Michigan Book and Supply, and there 2 books listed for this class. Since I've been in BIT320, I haven't heard Proffesor Gibson even mention these books.

Click here to see the first book

And here is the other book.
Click here to see the second book

If anybody knows, please let me know in class or something. Thanks a lot guys.

Too fast

This Tuesday, I went to BIT class and I found it hard to keep up in class. There seemed to be so many things going on in class and I found it hard to concentrate and take notes. I think I need to buy myself a voice recoreder to take better notes. I was looking online and I came across this voice recorder. It has 16 mb flash memory which holds up to 3 hours of recording. 3 HOURS of professor Gibson's lectures. Thats good enough for me!

Heres the voice recoreder.

Cool, huh?
